Your passport
How does Postmark find my countries?
It reads the date and place of each photo on your iPhone, groups photos taken close together into stops, and calls a run of days away from home a trip. A country with photos on one day is Visited; on two days or more, Stayed; the country you live in counts as Lived. Nothing is uploaded.
A country is missing, or one is wrong.
Check that Postmark can see those photos: You → Photo access. With limited access it only sees the photos you picked.
Some photos are left out on purpose. A photo taken from a plane never counts (higher than 9,000 metres or faster than 400 km/h), and screenshots never count. Photos taken only at an airport make a transit stamp, which counts only if you turn on Airport stops in Count your way.
To add what your photos don’t show, use You → Bring your history: Google Maps Timeline, the flights in your calendar, a flight list from Flighty or FlightRadar24, Polarsteps, a pasted list, or Add a country by hand.
Which countries are counted?
By default every country and territory, 250 in all. In Count your way you can count the 193 UN members instead, or the UN members with its two observers (195). Places whose borders are disputed are shown as a scene, never as an outline: Postmark takes no side.
Why isn’t my home shown?
On purpose. Postmark works out where you live on your iPhone and never shows it, names it or puts it in a film. Only its country counts, as Lived, and it is sealed in wax instead of stamped.
Why does one stamp shine and another not?
A stamp’s finish comes from how many international visitors its country receives in a year (UN Tourism figures): plain Ink for 40 million or more, then Metallic, Foil, Colour-shift, Hologram and Prism, and Mythic for under 50,000. It is the same on every iPhone. Tilt your phone, or move a finger across a stamp, to see its light.
How do I get a new cover?
Covers are earned, never sold. Every passport starts in Classic; the other seventeen open at milestones, from 3 countries for Departures to 100 countries or all 7 continents for Atlas, and for things like a photo above the Arctic Circle or in a total eclipse’s path. A cover you have earned is never taken away.
Is my passport backed up?
Yes. While you are signed in to iCloud, it is kept in your own iCloud and comes back on a new iPhone. You can also save a backup file and export your passport as CSV, KML, GeoJSON or PDF. Films are not part of the iCloud copy: save the ones you want to keep to Photos.
Friends
How do I compare passports with a friend?
Open Friends and tap Send my card, or let them scan your code. Their passport stands on your shelf in its cover, and a tap opens both passports side by side. There is no account and no server in between: the passport travels inside the link.
What does my card show?
Your countries, the year you first went to each and, unless you turn Months off, the months you were there. Never a city, a day or a photo, and never the months for the country you live in. Someone without Postmark can open your link and see your passport on a page that keeps nothing.
Films
How is a film made?
The Director reads a trip’s photos on your iPhone, picks the best and cuts them to the beat of a song that is cleared to share. Tap Another take for a different cut, or Edit film to change anything: tap what you see in the film to edit it.
Can I use any song?
No app can honestly promise that: songs inside Instagram or TikTok are licensed for those apps only. Postmark’s twelve tracks are cleared to share, and three of them are free. To use a trending sound, export the film without sound and add it inside Instagram or TikTok.
Pro and purchases
What is free, and what does Pro add?
The passport, every stamp, the covers, the bucket list, your year in stamps and the share cards are free. Every film can be made and exported free, with a small postmark on it.
Postmark Pro takes the postmark off your films and adds the Neon world, all twelve tracks, unlimited re-exports, the travel-days tools (days in every country and the Schengen count) and family passports. It is a yearly subscription with a free trial for new subscribers, a monthly subscription, or Pro forever, paid once. Prices are shown in the app before you buy, and billing is by Apple.
I reinstalled the app. Where is Pro?
You → Restore purchases. Purchases belong to your Apple Account.
How do I cancel a subscription?
In your Apple Account settings: Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Privacy and your data
What leaves my iPhone?
Your photos never do. To name places and draw maps, the app asks Apple’s maps service and a public elevation service about the places involved, your passport is backed up to your own iCloud, and it sends a few anonymous counts with no identifier, which you can switch off in You → Privacy → Anonymous counts. The privacy policy lists all of it.
How do I delete everything?
You → About → Delete all data. It removes your passport, the films kept in Postmark, your settings and the copy in your iCloud. Films you saved to Photos stay there. Deleting the app removes everything else it kept on your iPhone.
The beta
How do I join the beta?
Open the TestFlight invitation on your iPhone. It asks you to install Apple’s TestFlight app if you don’t have it, then installs Postmark. Beta builds expire after a while; TestFlight offers the newest one when it is ready. Postmark is coming to the App Store.
How do I send feedback from the beta?
Take a screenshot in Postmark and choose Share Beta Feedback, or open TestFlight, choose Postmark and tap Send Beta Feedback. You can also write to [email protected].
